"Inner State" is an interdisciplinary project situated at the intersection of media art, technology, and bodily awareness. Its core idea is to translate physiological signals from the body into an audiovisual experience. A piezo microphone captures internal bodily processes, such as heartbeat, and renders them visible and audible in real time. The result is an immersive installation in which inner, largely unconscious bodily states are externalized through sound and light. The project seeks to establish a sensory link between the human body and technology, allowing participants to directly experience how their own physiological signals shape the sound and imagery around them.
The signals picked up by the piezo microphone are processed and translated into visual and auditory parameters using TouchDesigner and Ableton Live. In TouchDesigner, these signals give rise to organic, continuously shifting forms, while in Ableton they modulate a synthesizer-based soundscape. Image and sound are thus directly responsive to the bodily data of the participants or performers.
The project was created by Constantin Politzer, Valentin Steiner, Simon Winkler and Flora Zotlöterer and me. The DodekaOTTO is by 3e8.studio.
